ADOS-2 stands for Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition. It is a widely used standardized assessment tool used in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The ADOS-2 is designed to evaluate and observe the social communication, social interaction, and play skills of individuals suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder, across different age ranges and developmental levels.
The ADOS-2 assessment can be completed within the home environment. The assessment takes approximately 40-60 minutes with a 15 minute set-up time, a 30 minute diagnostic coding, and a 30 minute debrief to review findings from the assessment. From there, further steps may be established based on the need of the individual. Each assessment is conducted within the home environment and all coaching/trainings are conducted via zoom to make each experience both comfortable and accommodating.
The assessment consists of various activities and tasks that provide opportunities to observe and assess the individual's social communication abilities, as well as their restricted and repetitive behaviors, which are characteristic features of ASD.
Once the evaluation ends, the information will be coded. A coaching session will then take place to discuss the findings of the assessment. At that time, the analyst and family can create an action plan for further resources based on the skills and barriers found.

If you notice any potential signs of autism in your child, I encourage you to reach out to a healthcare professional who can guide you through the evaluation process and provide expert advice based on your child's specific situation.
